Free Alexithymia Test
Alexithymia means difficulty noticing, identifying or describing your own emotions. This free, private checklist takes about two minutes and can help you reflect on how emotions show up for you. It is not a clinical test or a diagnosis.
For each statement, choose how often it is true for you.
1When someone asks how I feel, my honest answer is “I don’t know”.
About this test
An original reflective checklist written by Nurtured Coach. It has not been clinically validated and is not the TAS-20 or any other published alexithymia scale.
How the score works
Each answer scores from 0 (never) to 4 (very often) and the total sets your band. The bands are a plain guide to how often you recognised these experiences. They are not a validated cut-off and cannot show whether you have a condition.

Frequently asked questions
What is alexithymia?
Alexithymia describes difficulty recognising and describing your own emotions. It is a personality trait, not a mental health diagnosis, and it can be more or less noticeable for different people.
Is this the TAS-20?
No. The TAS-20 is a separate published questionnaire. We wrote these questions ourselves, so your score cannot be compared with a TAS-20 score.
Is alexithymia linked to autism or ADHD?
Alexithymia is often discussed in relation to autism, and some people with ADHD describe similar experiences. Having alexithymia does not mean you are autistic or have ADHD, and many people with those conditions do not have it.
Is it private?
Your answers are scored in your browser and are not saved or sent to us. This page has no Meta or Google tracking. We only count anonymous visits and whether the test was started and finished.
